One of our weekly baskets of vegetables and herbs from our local farmer friend.
A cookbook published by the Mennonites that teaches you all about cooking in Season. I LOVE this cookbook and have pretty much been using it to look up all of our cool and fun new veggies every week to determine our meals. And don't worry, the recipes are pretty simple and delicious!
A cookbook published by the Mennonites that teaches you all about cooking in Season. I LOVE this cookbook and have pretty much been using it to look up all of our cool and fun new veggies every week to determine our meals. And don't worry, the recipes are pretty simple and delicious!I had big dreams after we moved into our new house that I was going to plant a beautiful garden and we were going to eat exclusively from it. Then, Elijah came and my overly optimistic plans diminished. But Robert and I have a wonderful friend who has a farm and we have been buying veggies from him weekly. The deal is we pay him a pretty nominal amount and then he delivers a huge basket full of vegetables, herbs and soon some fruit to us. We have all kinds of different foods from beautiful tomatoes to fresh basil and parsley to carrots, potatoes and squash. I honestly have never even seen some of these varieties but they are all organic and delicious. This has really spiced up our eating around here and I feel great knowing my family is eating healthy foods everyday. Its also neat to see Alexander to begin to explore some of these new foods. He typically sits with me as I cut everything up before dinner and he always reaches over to try things (like pieces of tomatoes, squash, zucchini, peppers...). I, of course, still have to buy supplemental items every now and then but for the most part I can cook all week from this basket of food. Its just another small way that Robert and I are learning about stewardship for the world around us, our family and our finances.

In the fall there are some awesome pumpkin recipes in that book. And you know how I love pumpkin. I am sure you will try them and then I will come down and eat them.
Hi Karen,
